<HEAD>Administrative History</HEAD>
<P>Starts in 1927 as Municipal Airport Special Committee. Became Airport Committee in 1958. This Committee was replaced in 1962 by the Regional Airport Committee comprising representatives from Newcastle City, Northumberland County, Durham County, Gateshead County Borough and South Shields County Borough. The Committee was wound up in 1974 when its functions passed to Tyne and Wear County Council.</P>
