| Description | Gluckauf is regarded as the prototype of the modern tanker. She was built to transport oil in specially designed compartments of the hull. Before this system was developed oil had to be transported in barrels, which were stowed like any other cargo. Gluckauf was built by Armstrong, Mitchell & Co. at Walker in Newcastle. |
