| AdminHistory | Dr Kopelowitz was born in Newcastle upon Tyne in 1926. He studied medicine at Trinity College in Cambridge and completed his practical training at University College Hospital in London.
He was a very active member of Newcastle's Jewish Community serving as President of Jesmond Hebrew Congreation, 1963-1967, President of the Representative Council of Newcastle Jewry, 1967-1973 and President of the Jewish Welfare Society. He has also been deeply involved in national and international affairs serving as a member of the Board of Deputies of British Jews (the main representative body of British Jews) from 1951. He was elected as the Board's President in 1985 and served until 1991.
In 2015 he was awarded an MBE for services to inter-faith relations. He is also a member of the Royal College of Surgeons and the Royal College of Physicians. |
