| AdminHistory | Sunderland's is the oldest Jewish community in the north east, but the congregation, known originally as the Israelite Congregation or Adath Jeshurun, was officially founded in 1821. In 1862 a new synagogue was consecrated in Moor Street. The congregation moved to Ryhope Road in 1928. After a long decline in the community the synagogue finally closed in spring 2006. |
