<P>First appointed as Tramways Special Committee. It became a standing Committee in 1901 first as Tramways Committee and from 1921 as Transport and Electricity Committee. At the major committee reorganisation in 1967 the Committee absorbed functions from the Planning Committee and the Cleansing Committee to form Traffic, Highways and Transport Committee. Discontinued 1974. Its functions transferred to Development, Planning and Highways Committee</P>
