Contract files: CS Swan & Hunter Includes a few files for ships built by Coulson & Cooke, CS Swan's predecessor on the Wallsend site. Note: the Sunderland output of Austin & Hunter, 1874-1879, was retrospectively added to the Swan & Hunter yard list (probably c 1888), as nos. 106-128. Swan & Hunter numbers 106-107 had already been assigned ('Elingamite' and 'New Amsterdam'), and contemporary records of these two ships are under those yard numbers, but they were subsequently renumbered as nos. 129-130. Probably owing to this confusion, the series includes a few records of Austin & Hunter ships. The retrospective numbering has therefore been retained for clarity.
