AdminHistory | The school opened on 29 April 1869 in Scotswood Road, as Elswick Works School, Girls Department, catering for both junior and senior girls. On 1 October 1903 the City of Newcastle Education Committee took over the running of the school and renamed it Elswick Works Council Girls School. During the First World War the school was occupied by the military and the pupils were moved out to share premises first with Elswick Road Girls until 17 November 1914 and then with South Benwell Girls until 21 May 1915 when the school moved permanently to new premises in Sanderson Street. The school was then renamed Cruddas Park Council Girls School. On 1 April 1920 Cruddas Park Schools were reorganised and the Girls School became a Junior Mixed. With the outbreak of the Second World War the school was evacuated to Keswick, Cumberland, where it remained until 12 March 1945. |
